Biking/Hiking

For those who enjoying biking and hiking in the woods, there’s over 30 miles of trails that connect directly to our resort.

Simpson Creek Trail

In 1907, Sam Simpson's crew built the first tote roads and trails in the Cut Foot Sioux area. Today, this system makes up the 13-mile Simpson Creek Trail. Enjoy rolling topography through pines and along glacial eskers, with overlooks onto Cut Foot Sioux Lake and journeys into the cedar swamp. Cyclists travel on both old tote roads and dirt trail.

Cut Foot Sioux Trail
An extension of the Simpson Creek Trail, this is an 18-mile loop along old Forest Roads with gravel and sand. Access from the Cut Foot Sioux Visitor Center or the Highway 46 Wayside rest 5 miles north of the Center. Horse back riders also utilize this trail. Say "Howdy" and pass with caution.

Nightly Fires

There are two fire rings at the resort and we supply wood for both. The first fire pit is located directly in front of the lodge, with a picnic table close by; and we keep a fire lit nearly every evening for anyone wanting to roast hot dogs and marshmallows while making new friends. The second fire pit is located at the far end of the resort and is perfect for groups who want a more private setting or those who plan to make a bit more noise and don't want to bother the rest of the resort guests.
**For those who want a private fire, portable fire pits are available per guest request**

Wildlife Viewing

Wildlife gets no better than here in the Chippewa National Forest. Lake Winnie and the Chippewa National Forest provide some incredible year-round opportunities to see wildlife in their natural habitat. Out on the lake you are likely to see bald eagles, loons, osprey, herons, pelicans ducks and songbirds. Hike on the nearby trails and you'll likely catch sight of deer, squirrels, chipmunks and a multitude of other small woodland animals. Occasionally you might even have the thrill of seeing black bear, wolves or a moose. With a forest full of hardwood trees and pines - many of which are more than a hundred years old - you will enjoy nature at its best and most beautiful.
